Copyright Your Band Logo – Tips to Protection

A band logo is created after a great deal of thought and consultation. It will ideally represent you and your band. But it does hurt a lot to see the band logo tampered with or being used by a different person. And if this happens, you should be able to take strict action against the person so that it does not happen again. Band logos which are really artistic can be protected under the Copyright Law. But the name of the band cannot be done so. In fact, it can be protected only under the Trademark Law.

But if you are interested to register your band logo under copyright law, you need to get it imprinted on a tangible object, like a CD or even paper. Once you get this done, you will have exclusive rights to this art form and nobody can use it without your permission. But you can work still further to protect your band logo. You can approach the courts if you feel it is a must. In fact, it is not enough to have your band logo in a tangible form if the matter is taken to court. You have to seek further aids to protecting it, so that you get paid for damages if anyone uses the logo.

You need to make use of the copyright registry. It is best to register the logo once it gets framed so that you can sue anyone who uses it. The government does this job with élan. There are also online registries and associations which can get your logo registered. It is important to find out everything before getting the artwork registered. You need to find out about the fees, the time of renewal and if you will get certificates showing its validity for the period and registration in your name.
